(Sorry about my absence, I had a horrible flu keeping me down -_-)
At first, I mistake my misty eyes for nostalgia as I pin down another forgotten personal treasure onto my massive cork notice board.
Apart from masking the awfulness of my hall’s wall by covering over 30% of it, it is a great way to hold keepsakes in my view, making me smile every time I see them.
Lovely birthday cards, personal victories (I have two medals on there, mind you), hand-written notes from nieces, old pictures of family members and pets. Anything you can think of!
This board represents me, what I find most important in life; it shows what I cherish most.
And it’s good fun, too! Digging through stacks of panda drawings I’ve collected over the years (one from each nephew/niece for each birthday). Oh, all the memories…
(Although, at this point, with honesty as my incentive I have to admit I did not pin down all the, eh… lovely panda drawings I’ve received onto my precious notice board. I did, however, use all of them to “decorate” the godawful-beyond-a-fixer-upper-door leading from the hall into the bathroom.)
(And yes, that means I used them to spell out a massive “WC” 🙈)

“No matter what, I’ll love you endlessly;
I know we’re blood, but this love is bad for me”

My mistaken nostalgia sweeps away and reveals the true lingering emotion mistying my eyes: grief.
It washes over me as I inspect a drawing I don’t recognise, only to see my nephew’s name on in in his early youngster massive handwriting.
PANG goes my heart.
It’s been four years now – a little over to be exact. Never heard from my sis again. Never saw her kids again, either.
There’s a picture of me with my nephew as well, me hugging him tightly. Gosh I wish I still could.
I pin his picture next to a handwritten note of his sister, who I miss just as much. I wonder what they’d think of my massive notice board. Of all the things I’ve kept, held onto.
And… isn’t that funny? But I guess… for the first time in over four years…
I kind of miss my sister, too.
It’s not a massive feeling, but… it’s there. Well hidden behind layers of grief and nostalgia.
I wish she’d come back – a small voice inside me stirs and takes me by surprise.
I never knew I had this in me, until I stopped to look at it from a distance.
