EV Tale 8 - Uncertainty

“I don’t know any more,” the Princess said, “And that is the truth.”

The whole of the Kingdom cohered in a gasp, yet the Princess, addressing her people from her balcony, relaxed and poured herself some wine.

“The thing is, maybe Socrates was right. Perhaps true knowledge is knowing you know nothing.

I can’t plan for tomorrow, for I have no idea what surprises it will bring. I can’t hold on to the past, for there is no reason to drown in overdue emotions. I only have today. We only have today. There is nothing more and nothing less.”

She took a sip and felt the beverage embolden her spirit.

“I don’t have all the answers. I don’t even have all the questions.”

“I am uncertain about the lessons my past tried to teach me. I have no insight on the lessons the future harbours. And you know what?

I am okay with that.”

She smiled and cheerfully raised her glass.

“So here’s to uncertainty. To not knowing, to not being prepared. To gracefully live in today. For today is all we have.

And let’s thank the Universe for not knowing all there is to come in the time that lies ahead. Because if we did… Well, then we might not even make it that far.”

That day, everyone went home, poured their favourite drink, basked in today’s grace, and eventually went to bed with a smile on their face.
