Poem | life’s current

EV Divider Sunshine Top

life’s current

somewhere in a forest
painted green by leaves of trees
a river flows its prolonged path
its origin a gathering of droplets
their pace quiet and at ease
trickling dribble turns to water
a rush sets in and away it floats

faster, faster, through the forest
its power grows and ease is gone
unstoppable until it reaches the end
a fallen tree holds running water
forceful prisoner of a craft its own
hold up, hold on, let’s settle here
yet fatigue proves forever a myth

the unwilling wooden friend stops
holding on to times long passed
lets the water take him
to places unknown
running, falling, breaking free
only to find a new calm
everything seems friendlier
once life’s current is accepted
